Maltese is a Semitic language,
but with strong Romantic and Anglic influence. Both the English
and Maltese Languages are the official languages of the country.
Nearly all Maltese speak English fluently, while Italian is
also widely spoken.
The Maltese islands have two official languages, Maltese
(Malti) and English. Malti is an indigenous language of Semitic
origin spoken by most of the inhabitants. It dates back to
the Carthagian and Phoenician period of the island's history
and has been influenced by French, Italian, Spanish and English
over the centuries.
