Swimmers are well rewarded in the Maltese Islands: good sea quality, bathing
areas relatively accessible from most parts, and no tides. Snorkelling is excellent,
and there are numerous spots away from the crowds that offer peaceful swimming
and sunbathing. Although not big in size, there are a number of sandy beaches,
mainly in the northern part of the island; The most popular beach area is along
the north coast where sandy beaches are plentiful and the clear waters here are
ideal for sailing, skindiving and water-skiing. The best beaches are at Paradise
Bay, Golden Bay, Mellieha Bay, Armier Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, all of which
are very popular during the summer and pleasantly quiet during spring. In the
south the best sandy beach is at Birzebbugia and in Gozo, the Ramla Bay stands
out for its reddish sand. |
